“I convinced the others that perhaps it was damaged, but later I checked it, and Edward, it was fully functional. Something’s not right. Do you suppose the wrong girl found the hole?”
I give a noncommittal mutter and take another bite of the stale cookie, to avoid answering directly. I have heard the doubts of the animals, the indignation of those who were fed fairy tales of a beautiful, innocent princess with a supernatural aura – their savior, their goddess who would purify the battered, raped Wonderland and restore it to its former beauty – and were now faced with a surly, sullen creature, brainwashed with the sins and circumstances of the other world.
As much as they wished – as much as I wished – there was no mistake.
Wonderland had found her queen in Bella Dwyer. There was no other girl, no forgotten heroine fumbling around the endless dark streets in an attempt to find the portal to her true home.
