Preterm birth is a serious problem affecting children across the world. Every year over 20 million children worldwide are born prematurely. Over 1 million of these children will not survive. 1 in 10 of those who do survive will face life-long health complications and risks directly associated with their preterm birth, including serious complications such as cerebral palsy.
The reality is frightening, but it's not hopeless! Thanks to the work of the March of Dimes and its global partners, the survival rate of premature infants is higher than it has ever been.
During Prematurity Awareness Month this November, Fandom for Preemies, with your help, will raise funds to support the March of Dimes as they work to eliminate this global issue. The March of Dimes is the world's largest nonprofit organization for pregnancy and baby health. In 2009 alone, they contributed over 20.3 million dollars to eliminate preterm birth, birth defects and infant mortality across the globe.
In thanks for your support of this worthy cause, fanfiction authors across the fandom will donate one-shots, story outtakes and original works for a compilation. Those who donate a minimum of $5 to the March of Dimes during the month of November will receive this compilation in appreciation.
If you would like to sign up to contribute an outtake, one-shot, or original fiction, please see the Author Sign-Up page.
The website is currently under construction, so please be patient with us while we get everything up and running! If you have any questions, please email them to us!
Stay tuned for more information and welcome to the fight!

My dd and I were both preemies. I'm in my 30s (so neonatalogy has greatly improved) and was 12 weeks early and weighed 2 lbs and 10 oz and dd was 10 weeks early & weighed 3 lbs and 4 oz. We're both physically and intellectually caught up with our peers. I'm posting this to give encouragement to anyone who has or recently given birth to a preemie. DD is bright and creative & not behind in any way (not just saying that as a proud mom) and I have an MA degree and run half marathons. We preemies are tough. ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure you needs to know this problem. I'm just going to post it anyway. I went to the blog first and tried to donate to the March of dimes band created for Fandom for Preemies. It would not get to where I needed to donate. I went through all the possible routes on the site and then even through the March of dimes site and it still would not work. I kept getting a diagnostic issue statement. I check out my computer but it said all connections were working. Is there something about the site I should know or have others have this problem as well?
ReplyDeleteBinki,
ReplyDeleteThe March of Dimes upgraded the site on Sunday and they are still working out the kinks from it. The donation pages are working for some people but not for others. They're supposed to keep us posted on when it's fixed, but my advice would be to just try again a little later. I know it's an inconvenience and we sincerely apologize for that. We were not expecting the upgrade right before the fundraiser started.
